TROPICAL PARK IN MIAMI FLORIDA
World Outdoor Racquetball goes BACK TO MIAMI! It was a scorcher at Tropical Park, even by Miami standards.
Despite the record 90+ degree heat, 76 players showed up for a 1 day shootout in 4 divisions. With 22
new WOR members and 3 new female players, the event was a huge success.

Its not often regular outdoor bangers get the chance to play against an IRT Pro. It was great to have Miamis
own #11 ranked IRT Pro Alejandro Herrera banging with the outdoor thugs in hs very first WOR event.

The Open division was won by Jose Masachs and Ralph Cuesta, in their first WOR event playing together. Both
guys have been playing those courts for many years, and it showed with the steady and consistent game they
played all day. They won the big games, and could be a team to reckon with in the future. Their quarterfinal game
was against Alejandro Herrera and Dillon Silver, and then they took out locals Carlos Payret and Ismail Noa who came
out of pool play as the #1 seed. As usual, finalists Mark Maupin and Rob Mijares were in the thick of the battle,
dominating with Marks always dependable game, and Rob¢s thunderous serves. They took out Vic Leibofsky and his
partner Jorge Arias, who carried Vic to his first playoff appearance in the division.

Vinny Carvallo and Maykel Rodriguez took the A Division crown by defeating locals Luis and Juan Garcia in an exciting
match. Next season, both Vinny and Maykel will be stepping up to the Open Division and could shake up that division
once they learn a bit more about outdoor shots and strategy. Both the B division and the Mixed doubles division were
offered with no entry fee for WOR members.

In Mixed doubles play, Valeria Clemmenson was like a wall, getting everything back and helped partner Vinny Carvallo
take home another 1st place trophy. Second place in the division was Jackie Rodriguez and partner Julio Munoz, playing
in ther very first WOR event.

In the B division, Nick Chafloque and partner Robert Santiago dominated play, and will be stepping up to A division
going forward. They took out National indoor champ Melissa McElfresh and partner Hector Solev in a well played final.
Special thanks to Gina Hamilton and Lynn the stringer. We could not have done it without you both!
