Labor Day weekend is a traditional stop for the top pros in Southern California. This year everyone
hit the Newport Beach courts for a Pro Doubles Shootout with 19 teams battling for the prize money.
The weather & competition was great with Jeff Johnson & Pete Gauci pulling the upset over Rocky
Carson & Rob Hoff in the finals. Special thanks to sponsors Willie & Jackie Tilton of Meet & Play
and Kevin Booth & Tim Ring as tournament directors. Nice to see former 2x National Doubles
Champion Tim "River Rat" Ring come out of hibernation from the hills of Washington to make an
appearance. He must have built a secret training court up in the hills since there was no lack of
heat on his shots!
